Study 1:
An exploratory human study observed that a castor oil cream used around the eyes was associated with reductions in measured pigmentation and improvements in certain appearance scores over 2 months.
Study 2:
Castor oil contains fatty acids that are associated with moisturizing and skin-conditioning effects; some biochemical properties have been reported to be anti-inflammatory or antimicrobial.
Study 3:
A double-blind randomized clinical trial evaluated topical formulations containing rosemary-lavender oil, rosemary-castor oil, and coconut oil over a 90-day period. Formulations containing rosemary with castor oil were associated with measured changes in hair thickness, density, and length compared with coconut oil.
