Study 1:
Citronella essential oil has a long history of use as a botanical mosquito repellent, and it has been registered by the U.S. EPA for this purpose. Some early research associated citronellol and related constituents with mosquito‑deterring properties.
Study 2:
Laboratory and field research has associated citronella oil with repelling mosquitoes for limited periods in conditions where the oil is applied to skin or used in formulated products.
Study 3:
Citronella oil and its major component citronellal were also associated with antifungal and antibiofilm effects against Candida species in controlled laboratory assays, including inhibition of hyphal growth and mature biofilms.
