Study 1:
Human clinical research shows that vitamin E supplementation is associated with increased antioxidant capacity and reduced oxidative stress markers in blood and joint fluid in osteoarthritis, which aligns with its known antioxidant properties.
Study 2:
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of adults with rheumatoid arthritis, oral alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) taken over 12 weeks was not associated with changes in laboratory measures of inflammation compared with placebo but was associated with reduced self-reported pain scores, indicating a possible analgesic association independent of measured peripheral inflammation.
